SNORING AND SLEEP APNEA
BioM Dental offers the best treatment for snoring and sleep apnea, the two common sleep disorders. Statistics say that around 40 percent of people snore regularly. Anatomically, snoring is caused by partial closing of the upper airway. It closes partly and causes obstruction to the air in its travel to the lungs.
Snoring is common amongst those who have enlarged tongue or tonsils. The problem is also common in people who are overweight. Snoring can also be due to structural reasons such as the shape of one’s nose or jaw.
Snoring may be a sign of a more serious condition called Sleep Apnea. In this condition, patients stop breathing in the middle of the night.
Signs of Sleep Apnea
- Excessive drowsing during the daytime
- Chronic loud snoring
- Waking suddenly in the middle of the night due to shortness of breath
- Struggle to fall asleep at night
- Difficulty in staying focused and paying attention
Types of sleep apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most prevalent form of it. Studies say that more than 80 percent of the people have symptoms of OSA. It happens when the air stops flowing t the lungs because of a blockage or obstruction in the nose or throat.
Central Sleep Apnea or CSA is relatively less common. Here, the airway is open, but the air does not flow to the lungs as there are no efforts made for breathing. It happens because the communication between the brain and the body gets affected. Since snoring is not common in this case, it goes unnoticed at times.
Mixed Sleep Apnea or MSA is a condition where there is an obstruction in the upper airway, and there are no efforts made to breathe. It is a rare condition that needs to be diagnosed well.
BioM Dental offers comprehensive treatment for snoring and sleep apnea to help patients in overcoming the issue.
